Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has 100% exempted motor vehicle (MV) taxes and electric vehicle registration fees in accordance with Odisha’s Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021.
The state transportation department issued a notification in this regard on Saturday.
“The State Government, in exercising the powers conferred by the Odisha Motor Vehicle Taxation Act 1975, hereby authorizes 100% exemption from motor vehicle taxes and also motor vehicle taxes. registration fees for all types of battery-operated vehicles (electric vehicles) during the insurance period, ie until December 31, 2025 ”, the notification states.
On the advice of NITI Aayog, the government of Odisha developed the Electric Vehicle Policy 2021 in September this year to encourage faster adoption of electric vehicles in the state.
As part of this policy, the government has proposed to extend financial incentives to manufacturing industries, buyers, scrapping as well as subsidizing interest on loans, exemption from road tax and registration fee during the period of the policy (five years). It also decided to grant incentives as part of the start-up policy.
As per the policy, the state will provide a subsidy of 15%, a maximum of Rs 5,000 for two-wheelers, Rs 10,000 for three-wheelers and Rs 50,000 for four-wheelers on the base price.
