The award was presented to the state after a presentation and evaluation session at the ninth meeting of the National Communications and Digital Economy Council in Abuja on Monday.

Other categories included digital technology and human capital development, e-government implementation in all states, and technological infrastructure development.

Oyo won different positions in each category.

In the digital technologies and human capital development category, Oyo came first, Kebbi State second, while Bauchi State came third.

In the all-state e-government implementation category, Edo State came first, Kaduna State came in second, while Oyo came in third.

In the category of technological infrastructure development, Oyo came first, Kaduna second and Niger State third.

Speaking at the event, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Professor Isa Pantami said a governor had contacted him, asking his state to be among the winners.

He said he told the governor he had no say in who won.

The Minister said: “While the awards were being presented to the winners, a governor of one of the states immediately contacted me. He said his condition should be included among the recipients of the awards.

“I apologized to him and told him that I was not part of the team reviewing what was presented. I allow the committee to do independent work.
